CONTACT LENS EXAM & FITTING FAQ

Why choose Vision Professionals for contact lens eye exams and fittings?

Our competition will frequently select one manufacturer or lenses purchased at the best price and sold for the most profit.  Sounds great, right?  Not really. . . when this happens vision centers limit their selection of lenses to maximize profits.  This forces doctors to use lenses that may not be the best fit or provide the optimal wearing experience.  Unfortunately, with contact lenses one size does NOT fit most!  We fix these "problem fits" with great success almost daily!

At Vision Professionals, we have partnerships with all four major manufacturers of contact lenses.  As a matter of fact, our contact lens usage is divided almost equally between these manufacturers.  When a mainstream contact lens is not the best for you we have access to many made-to-order and semi-custom manufacturers to provide the optimal fit and wearing experience for you.  Due to our involvement with the national and international contact lens community , we frequently have access to pre-release contact lenses not available to the general public.

Because we have access to nearly every contact lens available, we are able to provide a truly customized experience that offers you the lens that delivers the best comfort and optimal vision, while preserving the health of your eye.  Our goal is not only to make you a successful contact lens wearer today, but to maintain your contact lens success for decades to come.

Will my contact lenses be more expensive if I buy them from you?

Almost always, NO!!!   Our lenses are frequently priced the same as other local vendors and online distributors  We have doctor to patient rebate programs that will frequently make our lens pricing CHEAPER than all other vendors.  In addition, our participation in many insurance programs allows you to utilize insurance benefits to further reduce your contact lens cost.

We utilize buying groups that allow us to buy as if we were a big business, however we get to maintain our independence and still select the lens that is BEST for you!   What this means is that we purchase directly from the manufacturer, with no middle man, and are GUARANTEED to be genuine rather than potential counterfeit lenses.

What is a contact lens fitting?

A contact lens fitting is when the doctor takes many precise measurements of the eye curvature and evaluates the ocular surface for contact lens compatibility.  Based upon these observations the doctor will select an initial lens that may or may not fit.  The doctor will then evaluate the prescription, fit, and biocompatibility with the eye.  Precision fitting requires some modification of the lens based on the initial observation.  Often times the lens will be worn for a week or two to determine if any additional refinement will be necessary.  The process is repeated until the fit is fully optimized.  Simple fits may only require one follow-up visit and/or refinement, while more complicated fits can require more.  Whatever it takes we are here to help!

New wearers are provided insertion, removal, and proper care instruction.

What is a contact lens exam?

If you wear contact lenses the doctor will provide a contact lens exam, in addition to your regular eye exam (which includes a glasses prescription and eye health exam only).  The contact lens exam includes all elements necessary to renew your contact lens prescription (which almost always is different than the eyeglass prescription).   While many patients feel they are doing fine with their existing contact lenses, often times we find and resolve small issues before they become big issues.  Frequently, we are able to optimize vision or offer a newer technology that will help keep you wearing contact lenses for decades to come.

Which contact lens is best for me?

The best way to determine this is to call us and schedule a FREE consultation.  We do ask that you bring your eye exam results to this visit.  If your last exam is has been more than a year ago or you are unable to obtain this exam information, we can perform an eye exam (normal exam fees apply), and then provide you with a contact lens consultation at no charge.  The consultation will go over the lens options that will work best for you.  Because all cases are different contact lens fitting and material fees will be quoted at this visit.  Should you decide not to proceed, there is no obligation to complete a fitting.

Many patients have learned that they are excellent contact lens candidates from this consultation.  Frequently, we have options that will provide contact lens success when our competitors have been unsuccessful.  Existing contact lens wearers will find this consult to be quite informative learning about newer visually optimized or less irritating lens options.
